Matthew Choi moved to New Zealand from South Korea, and is passionate about food. Studying cookery at UCOL, Matthew’s placement led him to do work experience at Gaon Korean BBQ House in Palmerston North. Alongside Gaon’s owner, Matthew helped create the restaurant’s menu and quickly proved himself. He’s now permanently employed as Gaon’s Head Chef.
“It took time to adjust from Korean food to the European palette,” says Matthew. But that is all part of my journey - most of our customers are local New Zealanders.”
