PNCC Road Design

Palmerston North City Council’s placemaking team approached the Creative Workhub, looking for a student who could brighten up Queen St.

Bachelor of Creative Media student , Jason Gardner, says his design was based on playing around with isometric and geometric shapes. The final product was inspired by the Manawatū River, with triangles flowing and blending into hexagons, illustrating growth and development.

Seeing the contractors at work was an especially great moment. "Just the feeling of seeing something you have done turning into something real – it's really cool seeing it take form."

"Jason was fantastic to work with, he was very professional, understood the task and delivered exactly what we were after. It is fantastic to be able to work alongside students to produce high-quality designs that benefit our community." Says Susan Calkin, Council project manager.

"Our students are creating some amazing work for our clients. In turn, they’re growing their own skills and gaining valuable experience in an inclusive and supported environment prior to graduating,” says lecturer Toni Larsen
